What is Radon gas? Radon gas (Rn) is a colourless, odourless, tasteless radioactive gas formed by radioactive decay of the tiny amounts of naturally occurring uranium found in rocks and soil. It can be found in every home and building with levels fluctuating throughout the day. Every home needs a radon mitigation system or detector. Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and kills more than 6 times the number of people than home fires and carbon monoxide poisoning combined. What are VOC's? Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) are chemical compounds, found in everyday products (such as cleaning chemicals, paint, cooking fumes, etc.), that evaporate into the air. Short-term exposure to VOC's can trigger health problems such as headaches, skin irritation, coughing with longer term exposure contributing to cardiovascular and respiratory diseases among other issues. What is humidity Humidity is the concentration of water vapor in the air. High levels of humidity can encourage dust mites and mould and lead to allergies and respiratory problems, like asthma. Low levels of humidity can cause dry eyes and skin, eczema and has been linked to reduced concentration levels and the increase transmission of viruses, such as influenza. |
